TEIN Street Advance Z Coilover Kit - Mazda Miata (MX-5) 1990-2005 NA6C, NA8C, NB8C - GSM64-9USS2 Review
Tein recently introduced their new Street Advance Z Coilovers and we wanted to check them out for ourselves. We were impressed! We installed them on a 2001 Miata. This kit fits 1990-2005 Miata's. The Street Advance Z coilovers were designed for Street Performance and start at Only $550.00! The kits comes complete with 16 way adjustable dampers, threaded sleeves and adjustable collars to adjust ride height, Tein springs, bump stops, dust boots, ride height adjusting wrenches, shock dampening adjusting knob, Tein stickers and Tein emblem, and complete installation instructions.
First impressions of this kit out of the box, was that Tein did not sacrifice quality to produce a lower priced coilover kit. The construction, fit and finish are on par with what we have grown to rely on from Tein Suspension. Tein is confident in their product and offers a one year warranty on the Street Advance Z Coilovers against manufacturing defects. The ride quality of this kit is smooth and quiet, and when adjusted for a firmer ride, is responsive and stable. Even on the stiffest setting, it is not a harsh ride. For everyday driving and some weekend fun, this kit has a nice balance of comfort and performance.
This Street Advance Z kit is great for those who want more than the standard shock and spring set up, without breaking the bank. The features included in this kit, along with the availability of optional upgrades, make the Tein Street Advance Z kit the best bang for the buck! When most quality performance non adjustable dampers with sport lowering springs can start in the five hundred plus range, Tein now offers a 16 way adjustable dampers and adjustable ride height springs for about the same cost. When comparing just the available adjustable sport shocks that are available for this Miata, the Tein Street Advance Z coilovers are still less expensive!
Having the ability to adjust the drop height and shock dampening is a great advantage. With a fixed drop spring, if you don't quite like how your car sits, there's not a lot you can do about it without sacrificing the ride. With Tein's adjustable ride height springs, you can raise or lower the front and rear height. In addition, with a coilover system, the proper shock travel range is designed in conjunction with the drop range of the springs. Also, with a non adjustable shock, you are not able to adjust the ride to your driving style and conditions. Tein's 16 way adjustable dampers allows for a wide range of conditions. Add the optional Tein EDFC and now you have the ability to adjust the dampers while driving! Other adjustable shock manufacturers do not offer cockpit adjustability.
Tein was able to reduce the cost of this coilover line by introducing a sealed, non serviceable shock. Most shock companies like KYB and Tokico are also sealed and are non serviceable. Tein's finish is durable and corrosion resistant due to a patented 2-Layer, 1-Bake powder coating method, which uses 2 layers of anti-rust paint on a blasted surface. (Japanese patent number 4347712). Tein also uses their own ZT Coating on the ride height adjustment thread to protect against corrosion and frozen adjusting collars.

Easy to adjust 16 way dampening with just a click of the knob on top of each damper. Each click is noticeably responsive in handling and ride quality. Note, on the 99-05 Miata, the rear interior paneling will need to be removed to make dampening adjustments. The Street Advance Z kit is designed for Street Performance. Soften the dampening for a cruising around and stiffen up the dampening for a more sportier ride through the canyons. This Tein Street Advance Z Coilover is also EDFC compatible. This means you can add an Electronic Damping Force Controller to your cockpit and have the ability to adjust the shocks dampening on the fly! No other adjustable shock or coilover in this price range has that ability! With the addition of the EDFC II, EDFC Active or EDFC Active Pro, you can turn this kit into a 32way adjustable dampening kit. If you still need finer adjustments, add the optional GPS kit and it converts to a 64way dampening kit!

Compared to most shocks and springs on the market, Tein offers a very competitively priced, quality driven, performance enhanced options!
