Standard Automotive Conversions
Length
1mm = 0.03937 in.
1inch = 25.4mm
Example: (a) 60mm x 0.03937 = 2.36 inch
(b) 3 inch X 25.4 = 76.2mm
Torque
1 kg-m = 7.2330139 ft-lb
1 ft-lb = 0.138255 kg-m
Flow Rate
1 lbs./hr. = 10.5 cc/min
1 cc/min = .095238 lbs/hr
Speed
1 mph = 1.609344 km/h
1 km/h = 0.6213712 mph
Temperature
( _C x 1.8) + 32 = _F
(_F - 32)/1.8 = _C
Example: (a) (750C x 1.8) = 1350
1350 + 32 = 1380 F
(b) (190F - 32) = 158
158 / 1.8 = 87.8C
Turbo Timer Wiring
Wires |
Connection |
Red | +12V constant |
Green | +12V Ignition |
Blue | +12V Accessory |
Black | ~Chassis Ground |
Note: for cars with two ignition (ON) wires, connect the Green wire to the Ignition (ON) wire which does not drop voltage when the starter is activated. Then connect the Blue wire to the other ignition wire.
Greddy Electronic Gauge Wiring
Wires |
Connection |
Red | +12V constant |
Orange | +12V Ignition |
White | +12V Light Source |
Black | ~Chassis Ground |
Yellow | ~Negative Ground Output |
Note: Yellow wire is only on 60mm Warning Gauges. Installation of the yellow wire is optional.
Tire Speed Rating
On new tires any symbol denoting a fixed maximum speed capability will be shown in the tire's service description (205/60R-15 89H). Currently used tire speed rating symbols and their maximum speeds are shown below:
Q = 99 mph |
T = 118 mph |
V = 149 mph |
R = 106 mph |
U = 124 mph |
W = 168 mph |
S = 112 mph |
H = 130 mph |
Y = 186 mph |
When a Z appears in the tire size designation (225/50ZR-16) it signifies a maximum speed capability in excess of 149 mph. If a service description also appears, the maximum speed is indicated by the service description as shown below:
225/50ZR-16 |
= 149+ mph |
205/45ZR-17 88W |
= 168 mph |
285/35ZR-19 99Y |
= 186 mph |
Formulas
Tire diameter =
Circumference
Pi (3.14159265)
MPH =
Tire diameter (inches) X RPM (at redline)
336 X gear ratio (must be final drive ratio)
RPM =
336 X gear ratio (must be final drive gear ratio)
Tire diameter in inches
Tire Diameter =
336 X MPH X Gear ratio (must be final drive gear ratio)
RPM
Final Drive Gear Ratio =
Transmission Input to output ratio X Rear end gear ratio
Ex: Transmission output = 1.2:1
Rear end Gear = 3.89:1
Final Drive Ratio = 1.3 x 3.89 = 5.057:1
Maximum Gear Ratio =
Tire diameter (inches) x RPM (at redline)
336 (a constant number) x MPH (maximum speed)
